Why is gas fee in ETH on Polygon opensea? and why is it so high for NFT transfer?

This issue often occurs when you have set the currency symbol to ETH in the Metamask network settings. 

High NFT transfer fees may be due to the fact that Metamask is estimating fees based on Ethereum's current price.
