How does bridging work?

The Polygon Native Bridge employs a fully decentralized bridge for seamless asset transfers between Ethereum and Polygon networks.

Here's how it works:

Any token that leaves the Ethereum blockchain to the Polygon blockchain is locked up. The same amount of tokens is then minted on a 1:1 ratio as pegged tokens on the Polygon network.

Likewise, when users bridge tokens back to the Ethereum network from Polygon, the pegged tokens are burned, and those on the Ethereum network are unlocked.
